Dutch people are really tall! And then they ride these really big bicycles and seem even taller. At least if I go shopping for shoes or clothes here, they will have my size - if they have things that small!
I like what I have seen of Amsterdam so far. It seems like a big festival. I took a train from the airport to Central Station and then took a taxi from there because I didn't know where I was going. The taxi was one of the few cars on the road - the rest were bicycles or pedestrians. But it seems that Amsterdam also has a very good public transportation system. It's nice being in a place with so few cars.
And then there are the canals. They are everywhere. My apartment is very close to a canal - and one block over is another and then another. I went for a walk to look for a supermarket, but got a little lost and then hungry. I retraced my steps to find my way back and got a schwarma - a middle eastern sandwich - it was very good. I really wanted Indonesian food or Vietnamese (I passed a Vietnamese restaurant on the way here in the taxi, but couldn't find it).
I finally came back to my apartment because I was tired and wanted to sit down and look at my maps and figure out the layout of the city a little before I go out again. I'm going to take a nap and then try one more time.
Prices are much worse than I thought. I changed money at the airport to get enough Euros to pay for my apartment, but I had to keep giving the girl dollars in order to get the correct amount. I am a little worried about my cash, but I will use my credit card as much as I can.
Ok, it is a lovely afternoon to lay down on my nice new bed in my cute and cool little bedroom in this lovely apartment in this sweet little city.
